Chocolate Turmeric Green Smoothie

Here is a recipe for a no fruit and super powered chocolate green smoothie. Turmeric or also known as Curcumin is an herb that is awesome for inflammation. I use it in a lot of my cooking, but just thought recently I should start putting it into my smoothies, especially when I make a chocolate smoothie. It goes great with chocolate. One of the biggest reasons I love smoothies is because it is such an awesome way to get your vegetables in at every meal, along with all kinds of super foods that would be hard to take everyday. Raw apple cider vinegar is great, especially in vanilla and lemon and lime smoothies, but just go a little smaller dose on the chocolate so it doesn’t have a sour aftertaste. It will help with digestion of all the fiber and greens. If your smoothie just doesn’t turn out good, you may need to find a better tasting protein powder, add some frozen berries, or try a little coconut milk and more stevia.

2 cups water
1-2 cups greens. Today I used cucumber and kale
2 scoops of your favorite chocolate or vanilla protein powder
English Toffee flavor of Sweet Leaf drops of Stevia- flavor to how sweet you need it
1 tablespoon of coconut oil, or MTC oil
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp organic vanilla
1/2 tsp raw apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons of chia seeds
1 tsp of Maca powder (if you have it)
2 scoops of raw chocolate powder or raw cocoa powder
2 handfuls of ice

Roasted Beets and Carrots

Angie update: She had another scan and her cancer hasn’t grown at all. I say that is a win!! I love you sister. Keep hanging in there. I know the side effects of the medication is hard, but you are such a beautiful person inside and out. Let that inner beauty shine and people will be better just for knowing you. Love you!

Here are my three crazy kids on their first day of school. I love uniforms!

I have had a fantastic morning. I got my kids off to their first day of school this morning. I was totally excited for them and ready myself to be able to get more things done again and spend some one on one time with Mya, which I haven’t really done all summer. This morning I must have felt really motivated. Now that the kids are gone, except Mya of course, I will be able to make more videos soon. Today was definitely a catch up day. I was able to make 8 jars of fermented carrots and cabbage, so sauerkraut. So easy that anyone can do it. I have a video blog post on how to make this.

Then I made up a bison beef and heart stew in the crock pot, yes I said heart. That is a another post that will be coming, if it turns out good. I am very nervous about it because I have never had heart before, but I am a nutrient seeker and if you can find a way to make organic organ meats taste good, then the nutrition from them is worth a try.

After that, I made up some raw liver to try for a raw liver smoothie, please don’t leave my site just because of those last two recipes. Again, I will let you know how it goes. It is just a shot you take with some strawberries, but I just prepared it today and it’s in the freezer.
Lastly, Mya helped me pick some strawberries, carrots, corn, tomatoes, and beets from our garden. We went on a walk, did a little one on one time with some books and coloring and it’s only 1:00. Truthfully, this won’t last but it sure feels good today.

I thought I would post a recipe I am making for lunch with my garden beets and carrots. This works with any root veggies and taste awesome!! Here is the recipe:

Roasted Beets and Carrots with Rosemary Garlic Butter

Prep time
15 mins
Cook time
55 mins
Total time
1 hour 10 mins

Serves: 4
3 cups cubed peeled red beets
2 cups cubed peeled carrots
3 tablespoons butter or ghee
3 garlic cloves, mashed
½ teaspoon dried rosemary
Sea salt, to taste
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Place the beets in a large mixing bowl, and the carrots in a 9 inch by 13 inch glass baking dish. (Mixing the roots separately keeps the carrots from turning pink from beet juice.)
Place the butter or ghee in a microwave-safe coffee mug and add the garlic. Microwave until the butter is melted. Stir in the dried rosemary.
Pour half of the melted butter mixture over the beets, and pour half over the carrots. Sprinkle generously with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper. Toss each of the root vegetables to coat them with the butter mixture.
Dump the beets into the baking dish with the carrots.
Roast for 55 minutes, stirring halfway through.

Easy Liver Detox

Angie’s family is actually in Disneyland this week and from her photos, they are having an amazing time. They have rode on a private jet, got to take a tour of the Walt Disney Set and many more exclusive events. I love that they get this opportunity. Angie has worked so hard for the last 20 years providing for her family, that they never got to experience these kind of vacations and stress-free time together. Thank you again for all those that made this trip happen for her family. What a blessing!! Angie looks so great in the photos.

This is a super simple idea for everyone to start doing first thing in the morning.I actually grew up with my mom doing something similar to this and did not realize the power behind it. I try and do this everyday. Right when I wake up, I turn on my electric water pot and start warming up some water, while I squeeze one lemon into a glass mason jar. I add a dash of cayenne pepper into the juice, then fill it up with warm water. I drink this quart of lemon juice, on an empty stomach. So simple, yet such a powerful way to start your morning. If you can just sit and relax as you do this and take a few moments before you have to rush out the door, this also help you eliminate in the morning. Yes, that means it can help you poop in the morning. So important!!

Lemon helps your liver detox. So that means that all the toxins that you take in everyday, through the air, skin, water, and food are filtered in the liver and then hopefully we either sweat, poop or pee them out. Not very scientific, but that is basically the only ways we can get all the crap out.

You also want to always use glass when using lemon oil or lemon juice. It is such a strong detoxifier that it will pull the toxins out of the plastic and you will be drinking them. So, an easy solution is to use glass mason jars. We use them for all our smoothies and water bottles. They are just in the canning section of your grocery store. I also use stainless steel or glass straws that you can order on amazon. I feel a little fancy when I use my glass straw and for some reason it makes it more fun to drink. My kids agree but they have broke a few a them over the years so I have them use stainless steel straws now.

Chocolate Strawberry Smoothie

This was at Angie’s 40th birthday party in Idaho. It was so great to be with her.

Angie, I hope you had a great week. A local radio station in California helped to raise money for Angie and her family to go to Disneyland. That is so awesome. People are so good. I am grateful for all of those who are praying for my sweet sister. So many of my friends don’t even know her, yet continually have her in their prayers. It is humbling and beautiful to see the good in so many. Hopefully I will get some photos soon to share with you all.

This morning I wanted something that tasted really delicious and refreshing, but also started my day off on the right foot. I usually always think: Plants, good fats, and small amount of protein and then think what I should make to satisfy all those needs plus taste good. I was feeling like this smoothie today and it turned out awesome. It almost taste like a dessert and one I don’t have to feel any guilt about.

Chocolate Strawberry Smoothie

This makes two quart jars. I made one for Adam to take to the church with him. He rarely has any time to eat, so he can at least drink this down pretty quickly between seeing people.

2 cups coconut milk. (I use trader’s Joes light coconut milk-I like the price and it’s still pretty thick. Also no BPA in can)
2 cups good water
2 scoops chocolate protein powder-find a clean source. I used Sara Godfriends brand this morning. It taste really good and also has a lot of vitamins added to the powder.
1 scoop of fiber
1 large handful of parsley, probably about a cup. Parsley is wonderful for pulling metals out and detoxing. Same with Cilantro. You could also use just 1-2 cups of any greens you have available or a cucumber and celery.
1 cup of organic strawberries. I luckily have a garden that is full of these right now. I don’t cut the green stems off, just wash and toss in.
1 Tbs upgraded mct oil, or you can use coconut oil
1 tsp organic vanilla
1/2 dropper full of chocolate raspberry stevia drops
1 Tbs of Maca powder-optional
1 tsp of sprillina powder– optional
2 handfuls of ice cubes

With all my smoothies, you can substitute ingredients and just play with them. There is no wrong way of doing it. You will feel great and you can still make it taste fantastic. If you don’t want any fructose to start out your day, just eliminate the strawberries. It still taste great.

How to start sprouting raw seeds.

Here is a little video of some sprouts that I did the last few days. I also talk about cheap ways to make your own sprouting lids and different ways to use your sprouts. Raw nuts and seeds are wonderful to keep in your food storage because you can make your own live food any time of year. Happy Sunday to all! If you can’t tell Angie, Mya loves you.
